Best Time to Travel

A Rocky Mountaineer journey boasts a virtually anytime appeal. And here’s a season-by-season look at why.

Spring: In April and May, enjoy evidence of the last bits of winter, with snow-dusted mountains and ice breaking over alpine lakes. High water levels make rushing rivers a breathtaking sight. And a no-longer hibernating bear may just lumber beside the tracks, in search of after-nap snacks.

Summer: In the summer months, flowers are in full bloom and the lushness of towering trees is life-enhancing, to say the least. Dry, warm weather serves as the setting for the wealth of baby animals who now dot the landscape.

Autumn: Autumn means crisp gorgeousness as leaves change colour. Spawning salmon attract the attention of hungry bears and eagles as, off in the distance, the first signs of winter’s nearness are revealed by the freshly fallen snow on the peaks.

Insider Tips

The top wildlife sightings on a Rocky Mountaineer journey include bears, big horn sheep, elk and bald eagles, so keep your eyes peeled, you never know what you’ll spot.
