High Speed Trains

Eurostar (London-Paris/Brussels)

Travelling via the Channel Tunnel, Eurostar carries passengers from central London to the heart of Paris or Brussels in around the same time as it takes to fly. Eurostar takes you right into the city, thus avoiding costly transfers. Eurostar links with a number of European rail networks, connecting with trains departing for many other destinations across Europe.

Travelling along High Speed 1 (HS1), UK’s first high-speed line. HS1 is 109 kilometres of high-speed track, over a quarter of which is underground, allowing Eurostar to travel at 300kms per hour the whole way from central London to the Channel Tunnel.

TGV Trains (France/Belgium/Germany/Italy/Spain)

TGV trains operate across France, with connections to neighbouring Italy, Germany, Belgium and Spain. TGV trains operate smoothly and silently at speeds of up to 320kms per hour. The trip from Paris to Marseille takes 3 hours. Frankfurt can been reached from Paris in 31/2 hours, Barcelona is 61/2 hours, Milan takes 7 hours and a direct service from Paris to Munich takes only 61/4 hours.

TGV Lyria (France/Switzerland)

Lyria trains whisk you between the heart of Paris and some of Switzerland’s most beautiful cities. The lines between France and Switzerland have been upgraded allowing trains to travel at greater speeds, offering more frequent services and now you can experience these spectacular journeys for so much less.

Thalys (France/Belgium/Netherlands/Germany)

Known as the ‘Red Train’, there are 28 departures from Paris daily with various connections to Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. All Thalys trains offer a high level of on board comfort. Thalys trains can operate at speeds in excess of 300kms per hour and with the opening of new high speed tracks, travel times have been reduced significantly and frequencies enhanced. Paris to Amsterdam now takes only 3 1/4 hours, Paris to Köln only 3 1/4 hours and Paris to Brussels 1 1/4 hours.

Italian High Speed Trains

Linking Italy’s major centres, Trenitalia's high speed trains are fast and offer frequent services, which means that all Italian destinations are within easy reach. Travel between Rome and Florence in 1 1/2 hours.

NTV is the first private rail operator on the Italian high-speed network. NTV’s italo trains are all brand new and offer a wide range of on board services to ensure a relaxing and comfortable travel experience. NTV italo will progressively extend their network and service frequency. Travel from Florence to Rome in 1 1/2 hours, Milan to Rome in 23 /4 hours and Rome to Naples in just over an hour.

ICE Trains (Germany)

ICE trains operate throughout Germany with connections to neighbouring countries. Operating at speeds of up to 300kms per hour, ICE trains offer state-of-the-art comfort and amenities including in-seat video screens. Travel time between Frankfurt and Munich or Brussels is 31/2 hours. WiFi is available in 1st class on most major routes.

Renfe (Spain)

Renfe is the national rail network of Spain, which encompasses the high-speed train services of the Alaris, Altaria, AVE and Euromed. These trains offer a high level of on board service with frequent daily departures. The travel times between Madrid and Barcelona is 3 hours and 21/2 hours from Madrid to Seville.

X2000 and X3000 (Sweden)

X2000 and X3000 operate between Stockholm and other major Swedish cities at a speed of 200kms per hour. Travel from Stockholm to Malmo in 41/2 hours or Gothenburg in 3 hours. Complimentary WiFi is available in both 1st and 2nd Class.

Allegro (Finland - Russia)

Allegro is a high-speed train connecting Helsinki and St Petersburg. Operating at speeds up to 220kms per hour, the train’s travel time is 31/2 hours from centre to centre. There are four daily services from both cities. The train is spacious and the interior is timelessly classy and it has a wide variety of services including restaurant car and a children’s play room. The on board staff speak Finnish, Russian and English.

Overnight Trains

CityNightLine (Netherlands/Germany/Czech Republic/Austria/Switzerland/Italy)

Linking six countries, this train journey is truly an experience. Onboard accommodation options include sleepers (with or without private bathroom facilities), couchette or sleeperette. Sleeper accommodation includes breakfast served in cabin.

Thello Night Train (France - Italy)

Linking Paris with Venice via Milan, this service departs nightly in each direction. On board accommodation options include sleepers (with private bathrooms) and couchettes. Sleeper accommodation includes breakfast served in the restaurant.

Swiss Scenic Trains

Glacier Express (St. Moritz - Zermatt)

The slowest express train in the world! Ride the rails up into the clouds, through untouched alpine countryside, over roaring mountain streams, past towering walls of rock. Between St Moritz and Zermatt, the Glacier Express runs through the Swiss Alps, over the Landwasser Viaduct and 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels.

Jungfrau Railways (Interlaken – Jungfraujoch – Interlaken))

Travel to the highest-altitude railway station at 3454 metres. The journey is an experience in itself, as the train twists through the solid cliff face and glacial ice. Seven out of the nine kilometres of track are in a tunnel that penetrates the heart of the mountains of Eiger and Mönch. The train stops at Eigerwand and Eismeer, where panoramic windows provide a spectacular mountain vista. From the summit, enjoy a majestic Alpine panorama and uninterrupted views of the Aletsch Glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

GoldenPass Line (Lucerne - Montreux)

One of the most picturesque and popular in Switzerland, linking Montreux on the Vaud Riviera to Lake Lucerne, the historic heart of Switzerland. Travel through some of Switzerland’s most spectacular scenery, where every twist offers yet another stunning view.

Bernina Express (Chur/St Moritz - Lugano)

One of the most spectacular ways to cross the Swiss Alps! The Bernina Express passes mighty glaciers on its descent from Chur to the swaying palms of Tirano. Travelling along a UNESCO World Heritage route, you’ll journey through 55 tunnels, across 196 bridges and reach an altitude of 2,253 metres above sea level at Ospizio Bernina.

Wilhelm Tell Express (Lucerne - Locarno/Lugano)

The Wilhelm Tell Express links two of Switzerland’s most attractive regions: Central Switzerland and Ticino. The trip starts with a historic paddle steamer plying the deep blue waters of Lake Lucerne to Flüelen before boarding a panorama train for the trip along the world-famous Gotthard line. The journey is highlighted by the Gotthard Tunnel, countless spirals, horseshoe tunnels and remarkable bridges.

Chocolate Train (Montreux – Gruyères – Montreux)

A journey not to be missed; the Chocolate Train runs from Montreux to the Gruyère region, home of Cailler chocolate and Gruyere cheese! The ticket price includes coffee and croissant on the train, transfers to the picturesque village of Gruyères, a tour of the Gruyères Castle, and visits to the cheese and chocolate factories.

Gornergrat (Zermatt - Gornergrat - Zermatt)

A trip to Gornergrat is a must-do excursion to discover the dazzling beauty of the Alps. Departing Zermatt, Europe‘s highest open-air cog railway has travelled up onto the Gornergrat since 1898. The 9339 metre journey is an experience in itself; 29 four-thousand metre peaks – from the Matterhorn to the Monte Rosa – form a spectacular guard of honour. Travel across stunning bridges, through galleries and tunnels, past idyllic forests, gorges and mountain lakes, with the Matterhorn continually in view.
