About Peru

Have you ever dreamt about getting to know the magnificent Pacific Coast, contemplated the infinite beauty of the Andes and feeling the exuberance of the Amazon jungle? Peru offers all this and more - a land filled with myths and traditions, spectacular landscapes, colonial architecture and dramatic archaeological wonders.

Thanks to the legacy of powerful ancient civilizations, Peru is home to over 5,000 archaeological sites. Many of them are shrouded in mystery and are able to transport the visitor back to a time when these cultures flourished.

 


Ancient & Colonial Cities

This small, but fiercely proud country, has a rich and fascinating history of Inca kings and Spanish conquistadors. The country is dotted with the remnants of ancient cities, temples, and fortresses. Machu Picchu is the most famous of these Inca cities, while neighbouring Sacsayhuaman, Ollantaytambo and Moray also draw impressive crowds. Stroll the cobblestone streets of Cusco or visit the Plaza Armas and watch the world go by. The hill side town of Puno rises gracefully from the shores of Lake Titicaca, providing views of the lake for as far as the eye can see and the capital of Lima is home to incredible museums housing artefacts from centuries of Inca rule.

Peru offers an impressive playground from trekking to mountain biking, surfing to para-gliding and canoeing to kayaking, just to name a few. With beautiful lagoons, impressive mountain ranges and the deepest canyons on the planet, Peru’s natural elements are sure to exceed the expectations of all levels of adventurers.

 


Cuisine

Peru is synonymous with nature and has one of the greatest biodiversity’s in the world. With incredible and unique wildlife from llamas and howler monkeys to the elusive jaguar. Peru is also home to over 1,800 species of birds, making it an avid bird watcher’s delight. With the Amazon rainforest basin, the ice-capped mountains of the Andes, stunning coastlines, sand dunes and volcanoes; Peru simply leaves no doubt in ones mind the scenic diversity it has to offer.

 


Shopping

Shopping in Peru can be addictive, with local markets selling knitwear, hand woven textiles, blankets and rugs. Silver jewellery can be found in cities and larger towns, often in styles unique to Peru. Head to produce markets, found in every town and city, to learn about local culture and daily life.
